The 2nd Ethiopian Film Festival on Wed 10th & Thurs 11th December 2025

This year, we are organizing the 2nd Ethiopian Film Festival in Malta. We are showcasing two

original and acclaimed films (with English subtitles) to audiences in Malta therefore, bringing

out two communities together through the power of film. The festival will be taking place on

December 10 and11, 2025 at the Spazju Kreattiv Cinema, St James Cavalier. The continuity of this festival proofs Ethiopia’s film industry has the story and quality to get global recognition and acceptance.

Film: Jebina Wednesday, December 10 th , 2025, at 7.30 pm – VIP Drinks Reception

Gifti, a young girl who grew up in a small town in Ethiopia, she was raised by her stepmother

when she fell in love with the neighbor’s son Berhanu. When she gets abducted by a son of a

noble man Bonsa, and she is forced to marry him. In his despair, Berhanu's attempt at revenge goes wrong. The community turns to the traditional Oromo Geda system to resolve the complex interplay of love, crime and the injustice women endure. Based on a true story.

Film: Qalat Thursday, December 11 th , 2025, at 7.30 pm

Qalat revolves around the story of two close friends Girum and Addis and the challenges they

face when navigating major life hurdles. The two friends are presented with an unexpected

opportunity - one that tempts them to compromise their friendship, integrity as well as a painful

romantic setback.
