Relooted: African futurist heist game launched available as part of exhibition in Malta

Relooted is a newly launched African futurist heist game designed by the game studio Nyamakop, based in Johannesburg, in which players reclaim 70 African artifacts from Western museums. Relooted (2026) by Nyamakop is one of the artworks selected by curator Maren Richter featuring in 'A Few Rules For Predicting The Future', an exhibition commissioned by Spazju Kreattiv and featuring at Spazju Kreattiv (Space A) until 10th May 2026.

The exhibition takes its title from a 2000 essay by Afrofuturist Sci-Fi writer Octavia E. Butler, in which she calls for a grounded futurity shaped by interdependence, transformation, and imagination.

All of the artifacts exist in real life and hold immense cultural, historical, and spiritual significance for the communities from which they were taken. One can recruit its own crew members, plan escape routes, acquire the precious cargo, and bounce out of the joint.

Nyamakop is an award-winning independent game development studio based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The studio is known for creating original, African-inspired PC and console games for a global audience.
