Refugee Week Malta 2026 came to a powerful and vibrant close with Spark Fest, a community gathering that brought people together through music, food, speeches, cultural sharing and collective reflection. Held on 21 June 2026, from 4pm to 11pm, at Ġnien il-Kunsill tal-Ewropa in Gżira, the event marked the closing celebration of a week dedicated to courage, belonging and solidarity.

Organised by Spark 15 and contributors, Spark Fest was designed as both a celebration and a call to action. Taking place around World Refugee Day, the event invited communities in Malta to come together in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere while raising awareness about the realities faced by refugees in Malta and around the world.
From the afternoon onwards, the garden became a lively meeting point for families, children, NGOs, artists and community members.
Family activities created a warm and inclusive space for people of all ages. The programme included a Kids Area, an NGO Village and the Cultural Bridges Exhibition, which highlighted Sudanese, Palestinian, Somali and Iranian communities. Through cultural sharing, visitors were invited to discover stories, traditions and perspectives that reflected the diversity and resilience of refugee and migrant communities.

Food also played an important role in the event. Afro Deli Food brought people together around shared flavours, once again showing how food can become a bridge between cultures and communities. In the spirit of Refugee Week Malta, the simple act of gathering around food became an opportunity for exchange, recognition and belonging.

As the evening unfolded, Spark Fest shifted into a celebration of performance and creativity. Live music and dance filled the space, transforming the closing event into a joyful expression of unity and resilience. The performances created an atmosphere where celebration and solidarity came together, closing the week on a note of hope, energy and collective strength.

More than a mere celebration, Spark Fest was a place of action, showing that belonging is built through shared spaces and meaningful encounters. As the closing event of Refugee Week Malta 2026, it brought together the many themes explored throughout the week: courage, community, resilience and the right of every person to seek safety, dignity and home.
