The impact of summer tourism on small shops in Valletta, Malta

Valletta, the famous capital of Malta, is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. With its cobbled streets, historic buildings, and panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea, the city attracts thousands of visitors every year. But what about the small local businesses? How does summer tourism affect their businesses? Let's find out!

The team of AMAM VOX POP interviewed 4 shopkeepers who expressed their feelings.

It’s worth nothing  that getting the public to speak on video is challenging and not all agreed to do so.

We met a lot of business leaders who wanted to avoid talking to us at all, or even listen to what we had to say.

Nevertheless, it was fun and we got interesting views.

Small businesses rely heavily on visitors for their sales. They therefore need to strike a balance between promoting their products to tourists and keeping up with the frenetic pace of this period.

It's essential to recognize the importance of tourism to the local economy and to support these merchants who contribute to the city's cultural richness.
