Human Trafficking Public Awareness Information Day: Standing Together for a Safer Community

Public awareness for the  fight against human trafficking was organised by Agenzija Appogg, through its Human Trafficking Services.

On Friday, 7th November, the Marsa Local Council hosted a Public Awareness Day on Human Trafficking, bringing together key organisations, institutions, and community members to address one of the most pressing human rights challenges of our time.

The event featured Agenzija Appogg, through its Human Trafficking Services, Fondazzjoni SEBH, and several other NGOs. Together, they aimed to raise awareness, share information about available support services, and promote a coordinated community response to human trafficking in Malta.

Visitors were invited to explore a variety of stands set up by the participating organisations, including Appogg, Fondazzjoni SEBH, the Malta Police Force, and others. Each stand provided informative materials and the opportunity to speak directly with professionals working in the protection, prevention, and rehabilitation of victims.

The event went beyond information-sharing; it also encouraged creativity and reflection. A display of quotes connected by colourful threads represented the links between survivors, communities, and those who work to support them. Nearby, an art corner invited participants to express their ideas and emotions through drawing, highlighting the role of art as a tool for empowerment and awareness.

Human trafficking is not a distant issue; it can happen anywhere. That’s why community awareness and education are essential to prevention.

Appogg and Fondazzjoni SEBH emphasised that raising awareness is a collective effort, one that depends on cooperation between NGOs, institutions, and citizens alike. “Human trafficking is not a distant issue; it can happen anywhere,” one organiser reminded participants. “That’s why community awareness and education are essential to prevention.”

Through initiatives like this, Appogg and Fondazzjoni SEBH reaffirm their shared commitment to promoting dignity, safety, and social justice. Both organisations play a crucial role in supporting survivors, educating the public, and strengthening Malta’s response to trafficking.

Agenzija Appogg, part of Malta’s Foundation for Social Welfare Services, plays a key role in supporting victims of human trafficking, particularly those exploited for sexual purposes. When a potential case is identified, Appogg’s social workers offer personalised support that may include safe accommodation, emotional and psychological assistance, and practical guidance to help victims regain stability.

The agency works closely with the police and other partners to ensure coordinated care, while maintaining a voluntary approach that respects each person’s pace and choices. Through this combination of protection, guidance, and long-term support, Appogg helps survivors rebuild their lives and move toward recovery with dignity.

Fondazzjoni SEBH is a Maltese organisation dedicated to protecting and supporting vulnerable individuals, including children, families, and survivors of abuse. Through its network of residential homes and community-based services, the foundation offers safe spaces, psychological and social support, and long-term assistance to help people rebuild their lives.

The initiative encouraged visitors to take part in the broader fight against human trafficking reminding everyone that protection begins with awareness.
