As part of Refugee Week Malta, a comedy workshop series was organised to explore humour, storytelling, and self-expression. Hosted by Niti Dhingra, founder and CEO of Two Black Cat Comedy, the workshop aimed to help participants develop their comedic voice and prepare for a live stage performance.
The series consists of 4 sessions taking place in Birkirkara on Monday 8 June, Thursday 11 June, Monday 15 June, and Thursday 18 June. Each session is designed to guide participants through the process of writing, shaping, and performing comedy in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The first session, titled “Who am I on stage?”, focused on helping participants reflect on their identity as performers. It included introductions, group brainstorming activities, and exercises aimed at generating ideas for jokes based on a structured approach. Participants also worked on developing punchlines, learning how humour can be crafted through timing, surprise, and personal perspective.
The workshop series also serves as preparation for a live performance, which will take place on Friday 19 June at 7:00 p.m.at Spritz Social Den Hotel in Gżira. This final performance will give participants the opportunity to present their work on stage and share their comedic material with an audience. You are still on time to register and attend, you can find the showcase event page here.
Overall, the comedy workshop is an engaging space for creativity, confidence-building, and connection.
Within the context of Refugee Week Malta, it also highlights how humour can become a powerful tool for storytelling, dialogue, and shared understanding.
