Erasmus Plus and support to NGOs. The example of “UpGrade_Me”

Erasmus+ is the European union funding body that supports non governmental organisations for their projects related to education, be it formal or non formal. It provides financial and technical assistance. African Media Association Malta taped into that offer and applied for funds in order to create the project called UpGrade_Me.

UpGrade_Me is a project which proposes a training course for youth migrants, NEETS and vulnerable groups. The aim is to develop contents that will enhance migrant youth employability by their capacity building. The target group is youth workers who will receive an innovative tool which is an added value to the materials that they already possess in their work with vulnerable groups.

The motto of the project is self branding through a Video CV using your mobile phone, it is a project that want to empower youth migrants by teaching them how to harness the power of their mobile phone by using the free and useful apps available on Play Store or App Store.

The function of the smartphone has switched from being a device to make phone calls to a powerful working tool. It's multiple functions are as wide and useful as that of a computer. To use it to its full potential, one has to load it with useful apps like youtube, google drive, e-mail, KineMaster.

The overall aim of the project is to give an alternative to people who don’t possess a computer the capacity to apply themselves for jobs online.

During this training, youth workers will provide 15 hours of class in 5 sessions of 3 hours each.

They will train in :

  • Creating an email address and a Google account

  • Creating a CV and a cover letter

  • Creating a Video CV using a mobile video editor (KineMaster) and uploading it on their YouTube channel

Presenting yourself.

Nowadays people are judged from their appearance and especially during a job interview.

It is really important to make a good first impression. That is why a list of "things to do" is suggested to young people that will have the opportunity to take the training developed by UpGrade_Me.

The personal interview is the most important step of the process. It gives you the opportunity to showcase your abilities, your language level, your motivation, and your availability.

Mock interviews are practice interviews to help you prepare for a real, in person interview for a job through a lot of tips before, during and after the interview.

Nowadays the CV is not only a paper document, but today everything is digital.

A video CV is a presentation of a person looking for a job. The video presentation is captured by a camera or smartphone and spread out via internet. It is an innovative way to reach out to employers and grab their attention. During this exercise, the performer has one minute to sell himself as a brand to any employer. This is really appreciated by Human Resources departments and an original way to promote your skills.

  • Be clear, short and concise!

  • Look at the camera and put all your energy, show your enthusiasm!

  • Be creative and be yourself

  • Don't forget to mention your contact details (name, e-mail address, cell-phone...).
